Staff Psychologist (Therapy and Assessment)

Dr. Jazmin Lara, PhD

Dr. Jazmin Lara (she/her/ella) is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist, offering both therapy and psychological assessment for children, adolescents, young adults, and families. Dr. Lara earned her Ph.D. in Combined Clinical/Counseling Psychology from Utah State University and completed her predoctoral internship and postdoctoral clinical residency at The Ohio State University’s Counseling and Consultation Service, where she provided clinical services within a university counseling center.

Dr. Lara’s clinical experience spans a range of settings, and she has worked with children, adolescents, young adults, and families presenting with anxiety, OCD, ADHD, mood concerns, adjustment difficulties, and other emotional and behavioral concerns. She has experience supporting clients as they navigate developmental and life transitions, including the transition to college and adulthood, changes in family or school environments, and the process of understanding and adjusting to an ADHD diagnosis. She also provides psychological assessment and is passionate about helping clients and families use assessment as a tool for greater understanding, self-advocacy, and meaningful support.

Dr. Lara takes a warm, collaborative, and culturally responsive approach to therapy. Her work draws from evidence-based treatments including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) skills, adapted to each client’s developmental level, goals, and needs. In her work with children and families, she has training in Coping Cat, an evidence-based intervention for childhood anxiety, as well as Parent Management Training–Oregon Model (PMTO), which emphasizes strengthening parent-child relationships and supporting positive behavior change.

Dr. Lara believes that therapy is most effective when clients feel like active partners in the process. She works collaboratively with clients and families to understand the factors contributing to current concerns, build practical coping skills, and identify strategies that align with their values and goals. Her style is compassionate, genuine, and strengths-based, with an emphasis on creating a space where clients can feel comfortable being themselves.

As a bilingual clinician, she provides therapy in both English and Spanish to individuals and families. Her clinical and research work has focused on understanding the experiences of Latine individuals and mixed-status families, deepening her appreciation of how culture, family, and broader social contexts shape mental health and help-seeking. She approaches each client with curiosity, cultural humility, and respect, recognizing the importance of understanding their unique background and lived experience.

Assessment
Dr. Lara has experience conducting psychological assessments for children, adolescents, and adults, with particular experience in ADHD assessment. She views assessment as an opportunity to help clients and families better understand how they think, learn, and navigate the world, rather than simply as a process of assigning a diagnosis. Her evaluations integrate cognitive, academic, emotional, and behavioral information to develop a comprehensive understanding of each individual’s strengths and areas of difficulty. She is committed to providing practical, individualized recommendations that can support clients across home, school, and work environments.

Above all, Dr. Lara is committed to building relationships grounded in trust, empathy, and collaboration. She strives to help clients and families better understand themselves, recognize their strengths, and develop the tools they need to move forward with greater confidence and clarity.
